Alison's first project
Jan 23 2008, 8:17 PM EST | Post edited: Jan 23 2008, 8:17 PM EST
A Fine Frenzy can do no wrong but has anybody heard Alison's first CD (when she was known as Alison Monro)? It is the EP release "Monro" which features an 18-year-old Alison and a group of LA musicians.
It really is very good, though she has obviously honed her skills since then :)

I can provide some active links if anybody is interested in hearing it?

Sweet. Thanks for the link.

On a side note and I'm really sorry for going off-topic, but any idea why she changed her last name? Not really important, just curious is all...

I ordered that "Monro" cd on cdbaby. com, and I got it yesterday. It was sort of surreal, this young Alison, with blonde hair in some tight pink dress singing rock-like songs. Her voice definately sounded younger, but I think now she's found just how beautifully she can sing and her music style definately suits her more. ReggieR, I was wondering the same thing: Why she changed her name? Do you find this valuable?

Hi! Glad to hear you managed to order the CD - I have a feeling it will be very rare very soon! I can only guess that Alison changed her name (and hair colour!) to disassociate herself from Monro (the band)... but it is just a guess, there could be any number reasons of course.
A Fine Frenzy has had the most profound effect on me since I first heard "Rangers" on Jay Leno and I'm very proud to now be part of the fan Wiki!
I think I have every CD release - the demo EP, three different promo CD versions of "One Cell in the Sea", the original "One Cell in the Sea" CD, the "Introducing" DVD, the "Almost Lover" CD single and of course A FIne Frenzy's contributions to "Stockings by the Fire" and the "Dan in Real Life" soundtrack, plus the Monro CD. Phew!
Keep posting everyone!
All the best ;)

"Monro
Lead Singer/Songwriter Alison Monro of her band Monro has placed a featured song for a movie soundtrack of the film The Job. The film is due out this summer and stars Daryl Hannah, Brad Renfro and Dominique Swain. Alison wrote the song in collaboration with Ric Roccapriore, which was produced by Randy Cash of Elektra Records.
Monro is playing in local clubs in Los Angeles and has released its first CD. The band will be participating in the Battle of the Bands in Malibu in early summer."

That's the reason I thought of when I was listening the songs. I'm thinking it's a case of Occam's razor. Anyways, I was seriously surprised to her as a blonde, I even had to do a double take. Anyways, since you have the Monro album, could you let me know how many songs are on it? Is it just those five or are there more? Thanks.

And I totally agree, her performance on Leno was amazing. It was the first time I saw her performing and she made such a huge first impression on me. I have that, the Carson Daly performance, and her appearance on VH1's Top 20 Countdown recorded on my computer and those videos were on loop for a long time after they aired, especially the VH1 interview (she was too cute) . I seriously can't wait to see what she performs in her upcoming t.v. appearances. I hope it's "Near to You" or "Lifesize."

I sent her a message and asked why she chose the name Monro and she said she just liked it, no real reason. Her real last name is Sudol. I ordered a copy of Monro to add to my collection. AFF rocks!!!! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

here's some corrections...she was 16 when she formed the band, but recorded he ep very early on...she liked the name monro, didn't think a band called sudol would be catchy, as it is sometimes hard for folks to pronounce it...she really does have red hair as it runs in the family, but didn't embrace that till a little later, then, formed the band with friends but wasn't totally happy with the sound or the direction the songs were going, so she and the band went separate ways, but they are all still good friends and all very active in their own musical projects. ...so that's the scoop! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. "well...they used our garage to rehearse...."
I actually started this post fully expecting someone who knows Alison personally (or Alison herself) to respond - it has always struck me as odd that her first band is never mentioned in any interview or biography online, and I have read a lot of them! I personally think she should be proud of Monro, but admittedly I much prefer A Fine Frenzy's sound. Thank you for the extra info "frenzytoo"!
